How could my parents or family have ancestral roots in a geographical area that we haven’t even heard of before? Well, this is exactly what Ancestry DNA endeavors to find out and give you an estimate of your ethnicity, how it came to be where it is and what was the pattern of the migration so that you are better able to see yourself as a collective unit with the world and shed off all your in-group cognitive biases.
Ancestry DNA has spent years researching into crafting a sample of DNAs from across 700000 identified geographic regions known in the scientific community as Single Nucleotide Polymorphisms or SNPs. With this reference panel, they would match and compare markers in your DNA with their reference panel of the sample and if it matches. Your ethnic roots will be traced far back to the group of the reference panel.

· After filling the tube, screw on the cap until a blue fluid (an additive designed for the purpose of ensuring that the DNA remains preserved and the testing efficient) is ejected into the tube.
· Now, you will be required to shake up the tube for approximately 5 seconds so that the blue flood permeates into the entire tube and then seal in an envelope that will be provided in the kit.
· Now, the next step would be to mail back the envelope to Ancestry DNA. Remember to not send the envelope by any other means as postage will already be included in the kit. You will have to send the sample via U.S mail.
