Apple has been the most talked-about tech brand almost since its inception. The fact that it continuously keeps bettering its own benchmarks adds to its popularity. Every other day, Apple would drop an announcement or a reveal which would take the internet by storm. The latest announcement that made headlines was Apple Music getting Dolby Atmos spatial audio.
Dolby Atmos has been a boon to the music and sound industry. The sound quality enhancement which comes with Dolby is simply beyond comprehension. Recently, Apple announced a lot of features and collaborations during its WorldWide Developers’ Conference 2021. Fans and tech enthusiasts all over the globe were somewhat taken aback by the myriads of announcements and future prospects Apple shared.
It seems like the WWDC 21 wasn’t the only destination for Apple to spoil the latest additions to catalogue.
In a recent reply to a fan’s tweet, Apple announced that they’re all set to add Dolby Atmos to Apple music. The reply was enough to take the internet by storm and most users started speculating about the same. The most popular streaming app on iOS is all set to add to the user experience it has always been famous for. Let us take a look at how Dolby Atmos and Apple music are going to pan out.
It was around 9 years back that the first Dolby Atmos systems were used. The mechanics it introduced were simply out of the world. Developments brought this technology to in-ear output devices like headphones and earphones.
Dolby Atmos makes it possible for 128 audio tracks to be incorporated in different channels (as many as 10 channels).
The idea of Spatial audio was developed primarily due to the mixing of audio channels and the implementation of surround sound. This led to the idea of something called realistic and virtual audio. In no time, sound engineers developed technology which would make the listener feel the same way the audio would if it were being heard in person.
The introduction of spatial audio to Dolby Surround is what made Dolby Atmos possible. The listening experience that came with Dolby Atmos had simply outdone all others. This is the reason why the introduction of Dolby Atmos to Apple Music is being anticipated.
Apple music isn’t something we aren’t familiar with, rather it has been proven time and again that it is the most popular streaming service in the iOS App store. There has been no other streaming service that has even announced a Dolby Atmos experience. Therefore, not only is Apple Music the first one to introduce this feature but is the only one as of now.
Subsequent updates also suggest that this feature will be available to everyone with an Apple Music subscription with no extra cost. Dolby Atmos will also be available for users with a trial subscription without any charge. There is more for audiophiles, Dolby Atmos is not limited to iOS or Apple devices.
Apple devices will surely have the Dolby Atmos feature to begin with but once the first version rolls out, more devices will gain access. This means that third party devices would also be able to offer Dolby Atmos on Apple Music. Apple Music for Android will also be offering Dolby Atmos post the first round of releases. All apple devices along with Beats and Airpods with W1 and H1 chipsets will be able to support the Dolby Atmos.
Dolby Atmos is all set to offer a unique experience to its users. The 3D immersive experience makes the music lossless, i.e. all aspects which have been taken into consideration during recording are delivered to the listener. This feature may not be available on each and every song on the platform. The ones with this feature will have an icon which can be clicked or tapped to access the lossless version.
The lossless quality can be readily accessed through wired earphones on first tier Apple devices. There is a slight catch for second tier devices. Second tier devices would require an external Digital to Analog Converter (DAC) in order to access the seamless quality of music. There is an underlying concern associated with DACs that they are expensive but when it comes to the sound quality, few can argue on the expenditure.
WWDC 21 had already been an extravaganza for iOS and tech freaks. The announcement that came in addition to that is sure to boost the sales, anticipation and future prospects for Apple.
Apple is well on its way to making Apple Music one of the greatest cross-platform streaming services with their recent announcement. It is also being believed that the downloads and subscriptions, which are already over 10 million, are sure to soar. The future for Apple and Apple Music was never in jeopardy but the announcement they made recently makes it much better. What are your views on Apple’s latest venture?
